Principle Investigator

 

Hannah Hausman

Hannah Hausman (she/her) is the principle investigator for the Hausman Memory and Metacognition Lab. Outside of the lab, she loves to mountain bike, trail run, and cross country ski with her husband and dog. After all that exercise, she loves to cook and is working her way through the cookbook Grist, learning how to cook with all sorts of heirloom beans, grains, and legumes.

 

Graduate Students

 

Melanie Prieto

Melanie (any pronouns) is a third-year in the UCSC Cognitive Psychology Ph.D. program. She is primarily interested in STEM learning, metacognition, and how we can use study strategies to increase performance and retention in STEM classrooms, particularly as it pertains to increasing representation of underrepresented groups. Outside of research, Melanie likes to draw and paint.

 

Jexy An Nepangue

Jexy An (she/her) is a second-year Ph.D. student in cognitive psychology. Her research interest primarily revolves around feedback and error correction (how do people correct their mistakes when learning?), focusing on individual differences, feedback timing, and episodic error correction. She also investigates the interleaving effect and the influence of individuals’ learning strategies on optimal learning sequences. She is also deeply passionate about raising awareness of neurodiversity within cognitive research, particularly in understanding the metacognitive processes and strategies of autistic individuals. Aside from research, she is an avid nature lover, having visited over 40 national parks. Last but not the least, she is a huge cat person! She currently has 3 cats whom she loves equally.

Jolina Peters and Clare Payne – General Lab Managers

Jolina Peters (she/her) is a fourth-year Psychology, B.A. and Cognitive Science, B.S. major! Clare Payne (she/her) is a third-year Psychology, B.A. and Politics, B.A. double major! Jolina is passionate about research regarding judgment and decision-making, computational modeling, feedback and error correction, attention, and human-computer interaction! She enjoys various hobbies such as snowboarding, playing video games, and going to the beach. Clare’s research interests include discovery learning, productive failure, and the effect of AI/ online tools on education. She is a huge advocate for STEM equity, scientific literacy, and advocating for research-based educational methods in the classroom. Some of her hobbies include baking, sewing, and, more recently, rowing.
